Curb Idle Speed Check (2.0L)

  1. Ensure vehicle is at operating temperature, all accessories are off, and transmission is in Park or Neutral. Front wheels must be in straight-ahead position. Connect tachometer to engine RPM detection connector. See Figure .
  2. Check ignition timing, and adjust if necessary. Run engine at 2000-3000 RPM for more than 5 seconds. Allow engine to idle for 2 minutes. Check idle speed. See IDLE SPEED SPECIFICATIONS  table. If idle speed is not within specification, diagnose Idle Speed Control (ISC) system. See appropriate TESTS W/CODES - 1.8L article and TESTS W/CODES - 2.0L/2.0L TURBO article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE section.
NOTE: Before adjusting basic idle speed, ensure throttle valve area is clean.
