Basic Idle Speed (2.0L)

  1. Ensure vehicle is at operating temperature, all accessories are off, and transmission is in Park or Neutral. Front wheels must be in straight-ahead position. Turn engine off.
  2. Connect tachometer to engine RPM detection connector. See Figure . Using a jumper wire, ground ignition timing adjustment connector (Yellow/Red wire). See Figure and Figure .
  3. Using a jumper wire, ground terminal No. 10 of self-diagnostic connector. See Fig 1 . Self-diagnostic connector is located above left kick panel. Start engine, and let it idle. Check basic idle speed. See IDLE SPEED SPECIFICATIONS  table. If basic idle speed is within specification, turn engine off. Remove all test equipment.
  4. If basic idle speed is not within specification, adjust Speed Adjusting Screw (SAS). See Fig 2 . If idle speed cannot be properly adjusted, check for faulty Fast Idle Air Valve (FIAV). If FIAV is faulty, replace throttle body.
