Test SC-4A - Checking Brake Switch Sense

NOTE: Perform TEST SC-1A - CHECKING SPEED CONTROL OPERATION  before proceeding.
  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect brake switch connector. Brake switch connector is located near top of brake pedal. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage of brake switch sense circuit at brake switch connector. See BRAKE SWITCH CONNECTOR WIRE IDENTIFICATION  table. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 10 volts or less, go to step  3.
    BRAKE SWITCH CONNECTOR WIRE IDENTIFICATION

    Application Wire Color
    Brake Switch Sense Circuit JA Body White/Red
    Brake Switch Ground Circuit JA Body Black/Light Green
    Speed Control Power Supply Circuit JA Body Yellow/Pink
    Switched Speed Control Power Supply Circuit JA Body Dark Blue/Red
    Brake Light Switch Output Circuit JA Body White/Tan
    Fused B+ Circuit JA Body Red/Black
  2. Connect a jumper wire between brake switch sense circuit and ground circuit at brake switch connector. See BRAKE SWITCH CONNECTOR WIRE IDENTIFICATION  table. Using scan tool, read brake switch input status. If scan tool displays RELEASED, replace brake switch. Perform TEST SC-VER - SPEED CONTROL VERIFICATION . If scan tool does not display RELEASED, repair open ground circuit. Perform TEST SC-VER - SPEED CONTROL VERIFICATION .
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connector. Inspect PCM connector for damaged or pushed out terminals. Repair as necessary. Perform TEST SC-VER - SPEED CONTROL VERIFICATION . If wiring and connectors are okay, go to next step.
  4. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, check resistance of brake switch sense circuit at brake switch connector. See BRAKE SWITCH CONNECTOR WIRE IDENTIFICATION  table. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, go to next step. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground on brake switch sense circuit. Perform TEST SC-VER - SPEED CONTROL VERIFICATION .
  5. Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance of brake switch sense circuit between brake switch connector and PCM connector terminal No. 62. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace PCM. Perform TEST SC-VER - SPEED CONTROL VERIFICATION . If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open brake switch sense circuit. Perform TEST SC-VER - SPEED CONTROL VERIFICATION .
