One-Piece Cast Aluminum Master Cylinder

  1. Replace reservoir cover seal if it is distorted or torn. Place master cylinder in a soft jawed vise. Using a wood dowel, press inward and hold primary piston. While holding primary piston inward, remove snap ring from end of master cylinder bore. Remove and discard primary piston.
  2. Apply air pressure through rear outlet port and slowly remove secondary piston. Discard secondary piston. Primary and secondary pistons are replaced as an assembly.
  3. Clean cylinder bore with brake cleaning solvent or clean brake fluid. Remove cleaning residue with compressed air. Inspect bore surface for scoring, corrosion or pitting. If bore surface is not clean or cylinder condition is in doubt, replace master cylinder assembly. DO NOT hone cylinder bore in a attempt to restore surface.
  4. Coat cylinder bore and new piston assemblies with brake fluid. Install secondary piston into bore with a push and turn motion. DO NOT use any tools to start seals into bore; seals or cylinder bore may be damaged. Install primary piston into bore, push and hold piston inward and install snap ring. Bench bleed master cylinder.
