Pinion Seal & Yoke: Removal
- Raise and support vehicle. Remove wheels and brake rotor/drums. Stamp or paint a reference mark at rear drive shaft to axle yoke. Disconnect and remove drive shaft. Rotate yoke three or four times.
- Measure amount of torque needed (in INCH lbs.) to rotate pinion gear. Record torque reading for installation procedure. Remove pinion nut and discard. DO NOT reuse nut.
- Index mark yoke-to-pinion position for installation. Remove pinion yoke. Using Universal Gear Puller (J-22888), remove yoke. Remove pinion seal and wipe surface of seal bore clean.
