Drive Axle - Rear 7.56" (7 9/16") & 8.5": Description
Both rear drive axle assemblies have hypoid type gears with integral carrier housings. The standard rear drive axle used on Cherokee, Comanche and Wagoneer models use a 7 9/16" (192 mm) diameter ring gear. The heavy duty rear drive axle used on Grand Wagoneer and Comanche (with optional Metric Ton package) models use an 8 1/2" (216 mm) diameter ring gear. See Fig 1 .
