Rear Drive Axle Housing: Installation

  1. Support axle housing assembly on a hydraulic jack and slide into position under vehicle. Raise springs and start the bolts that attach springs to shackles. DO NOT  tighten bolts at this time.
  2. Align center bolts on springs with bolt locating holes on axle. Lower axle housing onto springs and install spring "U" bolts and tie plates. Tighten spring "U" bolt nuts to 90 ft. lbs. (122 N.m). Connect axle vent hose, parking brake cables and brake hoses.
  3. Align and connect drive shaft. Tighten U-joint clamp bolts to 14 ft. lbs. (19 N.m). Connect track bar and shock absorbers. Check and adjust axle lubricant level if necessary.
  4. Install rear wheels and bleed hydraulic brake system. Tighten spring shackle bolts to 95 ft. lbs. (129 N.m). Tighten spring front eye bolts to 105 ft. lbs. (142 N.m).
