Drive Pinion
- Press rear bearing on pinion gear shaft with large diameter of roller bearing cage facing toward gear. Clean housing bearing bores. Place shim in rear bearing bore and install rear bearing cup.NOTE: Chamfered side of shim must be installed toward bottom of rear bearing bore.
- Install front bearing cup into housing using a bearing cup driver. Install drive pnion gear. Install front bearing over pinion gear. Lubricate seal and install seal, yoke, washer and original pinion nut. Tighten nut to remove bearing end play ONLY.
- Remove original pinion nut, washer, yoke and front bearing. Install new collapsible spacer on pinion. Reinstall components in order using new pinion nut and tighten pinion preload to 15-35 INCH lbs. (1.3-4.0 N.m). Preload is measured as the amount of torque needed to rotate the pinion gear with an INCH lb. torque wrench.
