Intake & Exhaust Manifold (4.2L): Installation
- Clean gasket surface of manifolds and cylinder head. Position exhaust manifold to cylinder head and install alignment sleeves over end studs. Exhaust manifold on 4.2L engine does not use a manifold-to-cylinder head gasket so a clean mating surface is very important. Tighten bolts 1 and 2. See Fig 1. Remove alignment sleeves.
- Loosely attach EGR tube to intake manifold. Install intake manifold with gasket. Loosely connect EGR tube to exhaust manifold. Tighten intake manifold bolts No. 3 and No. 4. Install remaining nuts and bolts. Tighten manifold bolts in sequence. See Fig 1.

- Tighten EGR tube fittings. Install remaining components in reverse order of removal. Start engine and inspect for coolant and vacuum leaks.
