Piston & Rod Assembly: Installation

  1. Lightly coat pistons, rings, and cylinder walls with oil. Properly position rings on piston. See Figure. Install ring compressor on piston. Ensure position of rings does not change. Install upper bearing into rod, and cover rod bolts with rubber hose.
  2. Position piston in bore with arrow on piston head pointing toward front of engine. Lightly tap each piston and rod assembly into bore while guiding connecting rod onto crankshaft journal. Install and tighten rod cap to specification.
