Fitting Rings

Measure piston ring clearances as described in CYLINDER BLOCK in ENGINE OVERHAUL PROCEDURES article in this section. Install rings on piston with markings (indicating top of ring) pointed upward. See Fig 1. Install upper and lower rings with gaps positioned 180 degrees apart.
