Connecting Rod Bearings

  1. Rod caps should be marked for cylinder identification. Remove rod caps and use Plastigage method to check bearing clearance. If not within specification, new bearings must be installed. Replacement bearings are standard size and available up to .012" (.30 mm) undersize.
  2. Selective fitting is required on each connecting rod. A standard bearing may be used in combination with an undersize bearing to achieve specified clearance. Never combine bearings that differ more than one bearing size as a pair. Coat bearing surfaces with oil, install rod cap and tighten nuts to specification.
