Front & Rear Clutch Assemblies
- Place transmission in upright position. Apply thin coat of grease to thrust washer that goes between input shaft and output shaft.
- Install washer on front of output shaft. If end play was incorrect when measured during disassembly, replace with correct thickness thrust washer. Refer to THRUST WASHER TABLE .
- On 727 model, apply thin coat of grease to thrust washer. Install thrust washer in rear clutch piston retainer. On all other models, grease and install input shaft thrust washer over input shaft.
- On all models, align front clutch plate inner splines. Install assembly on rear clutch. Make sure front clutch plate splines are fully engaged on rear clutch splines. Align rear clutch plate inner splines.
- Grasping input shaft by hand, lower assemblies into case. Carefully work clutch assemblies in circular motion to engage rear clutch splines over splines of front annulus gear. Ensure front clutch drive lugs are fully engaged in slots of driving gear.
