Input Shaft End Play

  1. Measuring end play before disassembly will usually indicate whether change in thrust washer is required to properly adjust end play during reassembly (except when major parts are replaced).
  2. Attach dial indicator to transmission bellhousing with plunger seated against end of input shaft. Move input shaft in-and-out to obtain reading. Record reading for reassembly reference.
NOTE: Thrust washer is located between reaction shaft support and front clutch retainer on all 727 transmissions; between input and output shafts on all other models.
