Pressure Test (Selector in Reverse)

  1. Attach 0-300 psi gauge to rear servo apply port. Operate engine at 1600 RPM for test. Move selector lever on transmission 4 detents rearward from full forward position ("R" position).

  2. Rear servo pressure should read 145-175 psi (10.2-12.3 kg/cm2 ) with throttle lever forward and should gradually increase, as lever is moved rearward, to 230-280 psi (16.2-19.7 kg/cm2 ). This tests pump output, pressure regulation, condition of front clutch and rear servo hydraulic circuits.
  3. Move selector lever on transmission to "D" position. Check that rear servo pressure drops to zero. This test checks for leakage into rear servo due to case porosity. Porosity can cause reverse band to burn out.
