Rear Clutch: Reassembly
- Press input shaft and snap ring into clutch piston retainer (if removed). Lubricate and install inner and outer seal rings on clutch piston. Ensure lips of seals face toward head of clutch and are properly seated in grooves.
- Place piston assembly in retainer. Using twisting motion, seat piston in bottom of retainer. On 727 model, place clutch retainer over piston retainer and support assembly so that clutch retainer remains in place.
- On all models, place piston spring and spacer ring (727 model) on top of piston. Ensure they are positioned in retainer recess. Start one end of wave spring in retainer groove. Progressively push or tap spring into place. Ensure spring is fully seated in groove.
- Install inner pressure plate in retainer with raised portion of plate against spring. Lubricate all clutch plates with ATF. Install one faced disc followed by one steel plate until all clutch plates are installed. See REAR CLUTCH PLATE USAGE TABLE . Install outer pressure and selective snap ring.
- By pressing down firmly on outer pressure plate, compress clutch pack. Maintain pressure with "C" clamp or press. Using feeler gauge, measure clearance between clutch plate and snap ring.REAR CLUTCH PLATE USAGE
