Front Clutch: Reassembly

  1. Lubricate and install seal on clutch retainer hub. Ensure lip of seal faces down and is properly seated. Install outer seal on clutch hub with lip of seal facing bottom of clutch retainer.
  2. Lubricate seals. Install and carefully seat piston in bottom of retainer. Install return spring on piston hub. On 727 model, install same number of springs as removed. See Fig 1 .

  3. Position spring retainer and snap ring over hub. Compress and install snap ring in hub groove. Lubricate all clutch plates. Install one steel clutch plate followed by a faced disc until all plates are installed. See FRONT CLUTCH PLATE USAGE TABLE  .
  4. Install pressure plate and snap ring. Ensure snap ring is properly seated. With front clutch assembled, measure maximum clearance where snap ring is waved from pressure plate. Refer to the FRONT CLUTCH PLATE CLEARANCES TABLE  .
