A404, A413 & A470 TORQUEFLITE Transaxle: Installation

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 1983 Chrysler New Yorker, 1983 Chrysler LeBaron, 1983 Chrysler Imperial, 1983 Chrysler Fifth Avenue, and 1983 Chrysler E Class. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. To install, reverse removal procedures, and note the following:
  2. Prior to transaxle installation, place a straightedge across face of bell housing and measure distance from straightedge to torque converter face to ensure converter is fully seated. Distance should be 7/8" from bell housing face to converter mounting bolt flat.
  3. If a new or rebuilt transaxle is being installed, do not remove differential cover.
  4. Push axle shafts (with retaining rings installed) into differential. A slight force may be required to insert shafts into differential side gears.
  5. Adjust throttle and shift linkage as necessary. Fill transmission and differential sumps to correct level when installation is completed. See Automatic Transmission Servicing in this section.
