Draining & Refilling
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 1983 Plymouth Voyager, 1983 Dodge Ramcharger, 1983 Dodge Ram Wagon, 1983 Dodge Ram Van, and 1983 Dodge Pickup. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Loosen oil pan bolts. Tap pan to break it loose allowing fluid to drain. Remove pan bolts and remove pan.
- Install a new filter on bottom of valve body and tighten screws. Clean oil pan, making sure round magnet is over boss in right front corner of oil pan.
- Install pan with new gasket. Add 4 quarts (3.7L) of transmission fluid. Start engine and allow to idle for at least 2 minutes.
- With engine at curb idle and parking brake applied, move shift selector lever through all positions ending in "N" (RWD).
- Add enough fluid to bring level to "ADD" mark on dipstick. Recheck fluid level after transmission has reached normal operating temperature.CAUTION: Do not overfill. Reseat dipstick fully.
