Jeepster (1967-71) Commando (1972-73) All "J" Models & Wagoneer (1965-72)

Disconnect battery ground cable, remove horn button or horn ring. To remove horn button, pull straight out, to remove horn ring, pry center insert out by inserting small screwdriver in slot at bottom edge of insert. Remove steering wheel attaching nut, note location of alignment marks on steering column shaft and steering wheel for reinstallation. Remove three horn ring attaching screws, remove steering wheel using suitable steering wheel puller. Remove signal lever, disconnect directional signal harness from frame harness, and remove wires from each plastic connector. Remove wires by inserting narrow blade screwdriver into terminal of connector at narrowest part of opening, depress retaining tang and pull wire out of connector, remove harness loom. Remove two retaining screws from directional switch and two retaining screws from 4-way flasher, pry out horn contact button. Remove two bowl attaching screws and allow bowl to slide down column. Tape disconnected wires together (fold some wires back to flatten bulge), attach heavy string or wire to turn signal harness and pull harness down through steering column.
