- This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
- This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.
- Disconnect the startup battery ground cable.
Refer to: STARTUP BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT
- Remove the secondary bulkhead left inner panel.
Release the transmission breather pipe.
Remove the 4 upper transmission bolts.
Install the special tool.
Special Tool(s): 303-1435
Torque : 25Nm
Install the special tool.
Special Tool(s): 303-021
- Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2-post lift.
Refer to: LIFTING
- Remove the starter motor.
Refer to: STARTER MOTOR
Release the Emergency Park Release (EPR) cable.
- Remove the 2 bolts and 2 clips.
- Remove the heatshield.

CAUTION: Support the driveshaft at all times to prevent the damage to the centre bearing.
Disconnect the driveshaft from the rear differential.
- Mark the position of the driveshaft flange in relation to the output flange.
- Remove and discard the 6 output flange bolts.

WARNING: Make sure that the special tool is installed and used correctly. This will help prevent serious injury and damage to the vehicle and equipment.CAUTION:
- Support the driveshaft at all times to prevent the damage to the centre bearing.
- Using a suitable hammer and drift, make sure to only hit the corner edges of the special tool to remove the driveshaft.
- Care must be taken when handling the Constant Velocity joint (CV) joint. Failure to follow this instruction may disassemble the CV joint.
- Install the special tool.

- Using the special tool, disconnect the rear driveshaft.
- Remove the special tool.

WARNING: This step requires the aid of another technician.
- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Remove the rear driveshaft.
- Remove the front driveshaft.
Refer to: FRONT DRIVESHAFT - PROJECT 8
- Disconnect the electrical connector from the Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S).
- Release the wiring harness from the 3 clips.
- Disconnect the electrical connector from the HO2S .
- Release the wiring harness from the 3 clips.

WARNING: Be prepared to collect escaping fluids.
- Remove the bolt.
- Release the transmission oil cooler pipes.
- Discard the 2 O-ring seals.
Release the HO2S oil pan bracket.
Release the HOS2 transmission wiring harness bracket.
- Remove the 2 Emergency Park Release (EPR) bolts.
- Release the EPR cable clip.
- Release the EPR from the transmission lever.
Release the 2 EPR cable clips.
Remove the access cover.

CAUTION: Only rotate the crankshaft clockwise.
Remove and discard the 4 torque converter bolts.

WARNING: Make sure that the transmission is secured with suitable retaining straps.
Using a suitable hydraulic jack, support the transmission.

Remove the 6 transmission cross member bolts.

CAUTION: Make sure that the transmission is lowered to the value indicated in the illustration.
Lower the transmission a maximum of 60 mm.

NOTE: Note the orientation of the wiring harness prior to removal.
- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Release the 3 wiring harness clips.
- Disconnect the transmission electrical connector.
- Release the wiring harness clip.
Release the 4 transmission wiring harness clips.
- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Release the wiring harness clip.

NOTE: Secure with cable ties.
- Disconnect the electrical connector.
- Release the transmission wiring harness.
Remove the 4 left transmission bolts.
Remove the 3 right transmission bolts.

WARNING: This step requires the aid of another technician.CAUTION: Make sure that the torque converter remains in the transmission.NOTE: Secure the torque converter to the transmission using suitable cable ties.
Remove the transmission.

NOTE: Only do the following step(s) if a new component is to be installed.
Remove the transmission breather pipe.
- Remove the nut.
- Remove the EPR lever from the transmission.
Remove the transmission plug.
- Remove the bolt and the transmission cross member.

NOTE: Note the orientation of the transfer case bolts prior to removal.
Using a suitable stand support the transfer case.

- Remove the 6 transfer case bolts.

WARNING: This step requires the aid of another technician.
Remove the transfer case.
Remove the 10 bolts and the transmission bracket.
