General Equipment

CAUTION:
  • Before disconnecting any components, make sure the area is clean and free from foreign material. When disconnected all openings must be sealed.
  • New transmission assemblies are supplied pre-filled with transmission fluid.
NOTE:
  • This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
  • This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.

    Refer to: STARTUP BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT

  2. Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.

    Refer to: LIFTING

  3. Remove the engine cover.

    Refer to: ENGINE COVER - INGENIUM I4 2.0L PETROL

  4. Remove the cowl panel.

    Refer to: COWL PANEL

    Disconnect the breather.

    Using a suitable engine support beam support the engine.

    General Equipment: Engine support beam

    Disconnect the breather.

  8. Remove the front driveshaft.

    Refer to: FRONT DRIVESHAFT

  9. Remove the starter motor.

    Refer to: STARTER MOTOR

  10. Remove the driveshaft.

    Refer to: DRIVESHAFT - INGENIUM I4 2.0L PETROL

    Disconnect the transmission fluid cooler pipes support bracket.

  12. CAUTION: Be prepared to collect escaping fluids.

    Disconnect the transmission fluid cooler pipes and discard the O-ring seals.

    Disconnect the Emergency Park Release (EPR) lever.

    Release the EPR cable from the clips.

    Disconnect the solenoid electrical connector and remove the retaining bolt.

    • Disconnect the 2 transmission wiring harness electrical connectors.
    • Release the transmission wiring harness from the 3 clips.

    Release the transmission wiring harness from the 3 clips.

    Remove the wiring harness bracket.

  19. NOTE: Only turn the engine in the normal direction of rotation.

    Remove and discard the 4 flexplate bolts.

  20. WARNING: Make sure that the transmission is secured with suitable retaining straps.

    • Using a suitable stand, support the transmission.

      General Equipment: Transmission jack 

    • Remove the 5 transmission support bolts.
  21. NOTE: Note the orientation of the bolts prior to removal.

    Remove the 4 left side transmission to engine bolts.

    Remove the 4 right side transmission to engine bolts.

    Remove the 2 lower transmission to engine bolts.

  24. WARNING: This step requires the aid of another technician.
    CAUTION:
    • Care must be taken to avoid damaging the surrounding components.
    • Make sure that the torque converter remains in the transmission.
    NOTE: Secure the torque converter to the transmission using suitable cable ties.

    Remove the transmission.

  25. NOTE: Do not disassemble further if the component is removed for access only.

    Remove the transmission support insulator.

    Remove the breather.

    Remove the exhaust mount from the transmission.

    Remove the transmission heat shield.

    Disconnect the transmission electrical connector and release the 3 clips.

    Disconnect the electrical connector and remove the 2 clips.

    Remove the transmission wiring harness.

  32. WARNING: This requires the aid of another technician.
    NOTE: Note the orientation of the component prior to removal.

    Remove the transfer case.

    Remove the transmission Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) material.

    Remove the EPR lever.

    Remove the transmission cap.
