Removal And Installation: Removal

CAUTION:
- Make sure that the road wheels are in the straight ahead position.
- Make sure that the wiring harness is not twisted or damaged on removal. Failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the vehicle.
- Take extra care not to damage the wiring harness clips.
NOTE:
- Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.
- RHD illustration shown, LHD is similar.
- Electric and manual adjusting steering columns with steering column lock actuator shown.

CAUTION: Make sure the steering column is in the fully extended position to allow access to the steering column fixings.

CAUTION: Make sure that the steering column lock actuator is not engaged and in the service position. Failure to follow this instruction will make installation of the steering system impossible and may result in damage to the vehicle.

- Make the SRS system safe.
Refer to: Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Health and Safety Precautions .

- Raise and support the vehicle.WARNING: Make sure to support the vehicle with axle stands.
- Remove the engine undershield.

WARNING: Make sure that a new steering shaft connection bolt is installed.CAUTION:
- Do not turn the steering wheel with the steering column lower shaft disconnected as damage to the clockspring may occur.
- Fixings must be started by hand to avoid damaging threads.
- Discard the bolt.
- Care must be taken to avoid damaging the aluminium.
NOTE:- Make sure to clean the threads prior to installation.
- Note the steering column lower shaft to steering gear alignment marks.
- The fixing must be fully tightened immediately following installation. Do not leave the fixing partially installed as adhesive may be activated.
Renew Part: Steering column lower shaft lower bolt Quantity: 1.
Torque: 30 Nm
- Refer to: Steering Wheel .
- Secure with adhesive tape.CAUTION: Make sure that the clockspring rotor does not rotate.
- Vehicles with electric steering column.
- Vehicles with manual steering column.
Torque: 1.9 Nm

- Vehicles with manual steering column.NOTE: Note the fitted position of the steering column adjust cable.

CAUTION: Fixings must be started by hand to avoid damaging threads.
Torque: 20 Nm

CAUTION: Note the fitted position the special washers.NOTE: Do not disassemble further if the component is removed for access only.
