Pinpoint Test A: Transfer Case Clutch Lock-Up Tests
- A1: TRANSFER CASE CLUTCH LOCK-UP TEST 1 NOTE:
- The transfer case clutch status can be viewed on the touchscreen through the All Surface Information screen.
- When the transfer case clutch is disengaged, the front driveshaft will rotate independently of the rear driveshaft.
- Make sure that the transmission is set to Park
- Raise the vehicle on a lift so that the wheels are free of the ground
- Hold one front wheel and attempt to rotate the other front wheel
Will the front wheel, front halfshaft and the front driveshaft rotate?
Yes
Transfer case clutch not engaged. GO to A2.
No
Transfer case clutch engaged. Install a new transfer case. Raise a prior approval request for a new transfer case. Attach evidence of your findings to the prior approval request. A transfer case prior approval request will not be approved without evidence of the pinpoint test being completed
- A2: TRANSFER CASE CLUTCH LOCK-UP TEST 2 NOTE: The transfer case clutch status can be viewed on the touchscreen through the All Surface Information screen.
- Make sure that the transmission is set to Park
- Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment, perform routine - Lock Centre Differential
Is the transfer case actuator operation audible?
Yes
Transfer case actuator active. GO to A3.
No
Transfer case actuator inactive. Check the transfer case actuator circuit for short circuit to ground, short circuit to power, open circuit, high resistance Repair the wiring harness as necessary
- A3: TRANSFER CASE CLUTCH LOCK-UP TEST 3 NOTE:
- The transfer case clutch status can be viewed on the touchscreen through the All Surface Information screen.
- When the transfer case clutch is engaged, the front driveshaft will not rotate independently of the rear driveshaft.
- Make sure that the transmission is set to Park
- Raise the vehicle on a lift so that the wheels are free of the ground
- Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment, perform routine - Lock Centre Differential. Hold one front wheel and attempt to rotate the other front wheel
Will the front wheel, front halfshaft and the front driveshaft rotate?
Yes
Transfer case clutch not engaged. GO to A4.
No
Transfer case clutch engaged. Transfer case clutch operating correctly
- A4: TRANSFER CASE CLUTCH LOCK-UP TEST 4
- Refer to the relevant article of the repair information and check the transfer case fluid level
Is the fluid level correct?
Yes
Install a new transfer case actuator and retest. If the fault persists, install a new transfer case. Raise a prior approval request for a new transfer case. Attach evidence of your findings to the prior approval request. A transfer case prior approval request will not be approved without evidence of the pinpoint test being completed
No
Rectify any fluid leaks, adjust the fluid level as necessary and retest. GO to A3.
