Extended Modes

Extended mode uses a number of detection strategies within the Chassis Control Module (CHCM) software to detect if the vehicle is grounded onto an obstacle. The extended mode cannot be selected manually.

Reactive detection strategies are invoked when the when rate of vehicle lowering is below a predefined threshold for a predefined time during a downward height change. These strategies are normally invoked when the vehicle is lowered onto an obstacle.

Pro-active detection strategies are invoked when the vehicle is moving at speeds below 20 km/h (12.5 mph) and traction is lost while the CHCM detects that the vehicle is being lifted. These strategies are normally invoked when the vehicle is attempting to move with low levels of traction and supported by an obstacle.

When extended mode has been invoked the suspension will rise automatically to assist in clearing the obstacle. Once the automatic lift is completed, the driver may request additional lifting if required. This is achieved by operating the suspension raise switch while pressing the brake pedal.

Extended mode is cancelled by pressing the height selection switch or when the vehicle speed confirms that the body is no longer lifted or grounded.
