A/C Orifice Pipe Hiss Repair Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2021 Jaguar I-Pace, 2020 Jaguar I-Pace, and 2019 Jaguar I-Pace. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
  • This repair procedure is only applicable to 19-20MY I-PACE (X590) vehicles with a VIN  range from SADHA2B11K1F76542 up to SADHA2A18L1F79828
  • This repair procedure requires A/C  pipe repair kit: L9D3-19E959-AA/T4K12876

If the customer reports a high pitched hissing noise from behind the instrument panel (most prominent when a low fan speed is selected and at lower vehicle speeds), this may be a result of liquid refrigeration passing through the A/C  orifice tube on its way to the evaporator, causing a hissing sound. The sound is then amplified through the A/C  pipe vibration. To repair this issue the A/C  orifice pipe should be wrapped following the steps below.

  1. Remove the wiper arms and cowl panel (Refer to: FRONT WINDSHIELD WIRER ARM /COWL PANEL . ), to gain better access to the condenser to evaporator A/C  assembly, and the pipes that enter the bulk head.

  2. Apply both pre-cut sections of insulation to the A/C  pipe as shown below:

Remove backing paper from pad 'A'. Starting from the swivel nut, align the pad with the plane of two straight pipe sections. Wrap around one side of the pipe, then another.

Remove the backing paper from pad 'B'. Join the pad end with pad 'A', and align the pad with the plane of two straight pipe sections. Wrap around one side of the pipe.

  3. When complete inspect the A/C  orifice pipe for full coverage by pads 'A' and 'B'.
  4. To complete the repair set the A/C  on, at fan speed one, and the temperature set at 28°C and complete a subjective assessment of the A/C  hissing noise.
