Tailgate (G2220029): Removal
- This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.
- This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
- Remove the front overhead console.
Refer to: FRONT OVERHEAD CONSOLE .
- Remove the rear overhead console.
Refer to: REAR OVERHEAD CONSOLE .
- Remove the A-pillar trim panel.
Refer to: A-PILLAR TRIM PANEL .
- Remove the B-pillar trim panel.
Refer to: B-PILLAR UPPER TRIM PANEL .
- Remove the C-pillar trim panel.
Refer to: C-PILLAR TRIM PANEL .
- Remove the lower tailgate trim panel.
Refer to: TAILGATE TRIM PANEL .
Lower the second row seat head restraints.
Fold down the second row seat backrests.
Using each adjustment switch in turn, move the seat fully in all directions.
- Remove the rear spoiler.
Refer to: REAR SPOILER .
- Disconnect the startup battery ground cable.
Refer to: 12V SYSTEM DISCONNECT .
Disconnect the electrical connector at the C-pillar.
Remove the 2 covers.

NOTE: Repeat this step for the other side.
- Release the sun visor.
- Remove the bolt.
- Remove the clip.

NOTE: Repeat this step for the other side.
Remove the cover.

NOTE: Repeat this step for the other side.
- Fold the sun visor down.
- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Disconnect the electrical connector.
- Remove the sun visor.

NOTE: Do this step for all 4 components.
Remove the door aperture seal.
Release the tailgate aperture seal.

NOTE: Do this step for all 4 components.
- Fold down the passenger assist handle.
- Release the 2 access covers.
- Remove the 2 bolts.

NOTE: This step requires the aid of another technician.
Release the headliner.

NOTE:
- This step requires the aid of another technician.
- If equipped.
- Remove the 12 clips.
- Release the 6 magnets.
- Release the headliner.
- Disconnect the 2 electrical connectors.
- Remove the clip.
- Remove the 3 bolts.
- Disconnect the 11 electrical connectors.
- Remove the 4 clips.
- Release the 2 grommets.

NOTE: Repeat this step for the other side.
- Support the tailgate.
- Remove the clip.
- Release the strut.

NOTE: This step requires the aid of another technician.
- Remove the 4 nuts.
- With assistance, remove the tailgate assembly.

NOTE:
- Repeat this step for the other side.
- Only do the following step(s) if a new component is to be installed.
- Disconnect the electrical connector.
- Remove the grommet.
- Remove the stud.
- Remove the strut.

NOTE: Repeat this step for the other side.
Remove the moulding.

NOTE: Repeat this step for the other side.
- Disconnect the electrical connector.
- Remove the clip.
- Remove the tailgate anti-trap sensor.
- Remove the cover.
- Release the 2 clips.
- Disconnect the electrical connector.
- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Remove the tailgate latch.
- Disconnect the electrical connector.
- Remove the tailgate latch actuator.
- Disconnect the 2 electrical connectors.
- Remove the 2 clips.
- Remove the Tailgate Control Module (TGCM).

NOTE: Repeat this step for the other side.
- Disconnect the electrical connector.
- Remove the 3 nuts.
- Release the clip.
- Remove the tail lamp.
- Remove the nut.
- Disconnect the 4 electrical connectors.
- Remove the tailgate handle.
- Remove the 3 clips.
- Remove the bolt.
- Disconnect the electrical connector.
- Remove the activity key transceiver module.
- Disconnect the electrical connector.
- Remove the 4 screws.
- Remove the high mounted stoplamp.
- Disconnect the 4 electrical connectors.
- Remove the 6 clips.
- Release the grommet.
- Remove the wiring harness.
- Release the power tailgate close switch.
- Disconnect the electrical connector.
- Remove the power tailgate close switch.
Remove the 2 access covers.
- Disconnect the 2 electrical connectors.
- Secure the 2 electrical connectors with adhesive tape.
- Remove the 16 clips.
- Release the tailgate wiring harness.
- Remove the 3 clips.
- Release the 2 grommets.
- Remove the tailgate wiring harness.

NOTE: Repeat this step for the other side.
- Remove the nut.
- Remove the antenna amplifier.

WARNING: Wear safety goggles and protective gloves.CAUTION:
- Protect the surrounding paintwork to avoid damage.
- Protect the surrounding components.
Carefully cut through the sealant using a glazing knife.

NOTE: This step requires the aid of another technician.
With assistance, remove the tailgate window.
