Tailgate (G2220029): Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2019 Jaguar I-Pace. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. CAUTION: Make sure that the mating faces are clean and free of foreign material.
    NOTE: Only do the following step(s) if the component was previously removed.

    Clean the component mating faces.

  2. CAUTION:
    • Touching the adhesive surface will impair re-bonding.
    • Make sure all mating faces are clean and dry before applying sealant.
    NOTE: Make sure that a Hi-modulus sealer (for example, Wurth Ultimate adhesive) is used when bonding the component to the vehicle.

    Prepare the window, window flange and trimmed PU adhesive in accordance with the instructions included with the PU adhesive kit.

  3. CAUTION: Make sure that equal pressure is applied to the full length of the component.
    NOTE: This step requires the aid of another technician.

    • With assistance, install the tailgate window.
    • Lightly press the window to seat the sealer.
  4. NOTE: Repeat this step for the other side.
    • Install the antenna amplifier.
    • Install and tighten the nut.

      Torque  : 10Nm

    • Install the tailgate wiring harness.
    • Install the 2 grommets.
    • Secure the 19 clips.
    • Remove the adhesive tape on each side.
    • Connect the 2 electrical connectors.
  7. Install the 2 access covers.
    • Connect the electrical connector.
    • Install the power tailgate close switch.
    • Install the wiring harness.
    • Secure the grommet.
    • Secure the 6 clips.
    • Connect the 4 electrical connectors.
    • Connect the electrical connector.
    • Install the high mounted stoplamp.
    • Install the 4 screws.
    • Connect the electrical connector.
    • Secure the 3 clips.
    • Install the activity key transceiver module.
    • Install and tighten the bolt.

      Torque  : 2Nm

    • Connect the 4 electrical connectors.
    • Install the tailgate handle.
    • Install and tighten the nut.

      Torque  : 2Nm

  13. NOTE: Repeat this step for the other side.
    • Install the tail lamp.
    • Secure the clip.
    • Install and tighten the 3 nuts.

      Torque  : 2Nm

    • Connect the electrical connector.
    • Install the Tailgate Control Module (TGCM).
    • Secure the 2 clips.
    • Connect the 2 electrical connectors.
    • Install the tailgate latch actuator.
    • Connect the electrical connector.
    • Install the tailgate latch.
    • Install and tighten the 2 bolts.

      Torque  : 5Nm

    • Connect the electrical connector.
    • Secure the 2 clips.
    • Install the cover.
  17. NOTE: Repeat this step for the other side.
    • Carefully install the tailgate anti-trap sensor.
    • Secure the clip.
    • Connect the electrical connector.
  18. NOTE: Repeat this step for the other side.

    Install the moulding.

  19. NOTE: Repeat this step for the other side.
    • Install and tighten the stud.

      Torque  : 10Nm

    • Install the grommet.
    • Connect the electrical connector.
  20. NOTE: This step requires the aid of another technician.
    • With assistance, install the tailgate assembly.
    • Install and tighten the 4 nuts.

      Torque  : 25Nm

  21. NOTE: Repeat this step for the other side.
    • Support the tailgate.
    • Install the strut.
    • Secure the clip.
    • Secure the 2 grommets.
    • Secure the 4 clips.
    • Connect the 11 electrical connectors.
    • Install and tighten the 3 bolts.

      Torque  : 5Nm

    • Install the clip.
    • Connect the 2 electrical connectors.
  24. NOTE: This step requires the aid of another technician.

    Install the headliner.

  25. NOTE:
    • If equipped.
    • This step requires the aid of another technician.
    • Install the headliner.
    • Secure the 12 clips.
    • Secure the 6 magnets.
  26. NOTE: Do this step for all 4 components.
    • Install and tighten the 2 bolts.

      Torque  : 6Nm

    • Install the 2 access covers.
  27. Install the tailgate aperture seal.
  28. NOTE: Do this step for all 4 components.

    Install the door aperture seal.

  29. NOTE: Repeat this step for the other side.
    • Connect the electrical connector.
    • Install the sun visor.
    • Install and tighten the 2 bolts.
  30. NOTE: Repeat this step for the other side.

    Install the cover,

  31. NOTE: Repeat this step for the other side.
    • Install the clip.
    • Install and tighten the bolt.

      Torque  : 6Nm

    • secure the sun visor.
  32. Install the 2 covers.
  33. Connect the electrical connector at the C-pillar.
  34. Connect the startup battery ground cable.

    Refer to: 12V SYSTEM DISCONNECT .

    • Open the tailgate.
    • Loosen the 4 nuts.
    • Adjust the tailgate.
    • Tighten the 4 nuts.

      Torque  : 25Nm

    • Close the tailgate and check for alignment.
    • If necessary, repeat the above adjustment procedure.
  37. Install the rear spoiler.

    Refer to: REAR SPOILER .

  38. Move the front row seats to the original position.
  39. Move the second row seat backrests to the original position.
  40. Move the second row seat head restraints to the original position.
  41. Install the tailgate lower trim panel.

    Refer to: TAILGATE TRIM PANEL .

  42. Install the C-Pillar trim panel.

    Refer to: C-PILLAR TRIM PANEL .

  43. Install the B-pillar trim panel.

    Refer to: B-PILLAR UPPER TRIM PANEL .

  44. Install the A-pillar trim panel.

    Refer to: A-PILLAR TRIM PANEL .

  45. Install the rear overhead console.

    Refer to: REAR OVERHEAD CONSOLE .

  46. Install the front overhead console.

    Refer to: FRONT OVERHEAD CONSOLE .
