Heating And Ventilation (G2200062): Overview

The heating and ventilation system provides the heating and ventilation for the passenger compartment.

The heating and ventilation system consists of:

HVAC Control Module
An air intake panel
A climate control assembly with air inlets and outlets
Ventilation outlets
High Voltage (HV) interior heater
Climate control indirect condenser
Climate control changeover valve
Climate control coolant pump.
Fresh or recirculated air flows into the climate control assembly from the intake duct. The blower, and/or the ram effect when the vehicle is moving, forces the air through the climate control assembly. Air from the vehicle interior exits through the ventilation outlets.

Heat for the passenger compartment through the heater core in the climate control assembly and climate control coolant is provided from 2 sources:
HV interior heater.
Climate control indirect condenser.
- Heat recovered from the electric drive temperature control system.

- Heat recovered from the outside air by the Air Conditioning (A/C) system and recovery heat exchanger.

  The HVAC Control Module selects the most efficient heat source to optimize the distance traveled by the vehicle from the Electric Vehicle (EV) battery.
  
  Vehicles are equipped with either a 2 zone or a 4 zone automatic climate control system:
  - The 2 zone climate control system provides different temperature settings for the left and right sides of the passenger compartment.
  - The 4 zone climate control system provides different temperature settings for all 4 occupants of the passenger compartment.

The system is equipped with a pollution sensor to control the quality of air in the passenger compartment.

The HVAC controls operation of the blower via the blower control module.

The HV interior heater is also used to increase the EV battery internal temperature before and during EV battery charging.
