HVAC Control Module
The HVAC Control Module controls the air distribution and temperature.
The HVAC processes inputs from the climate control system sensors, the Integrated Control Panel (ICP), the Rear Integrated Control Panel (RICP) and other systems. The HVAC then outputs the appropriate control signals to the Air Conditioning (A/C) system and the heating and ventilation system. The HVAC also sends status messages to the ICP and RICP to illuminate the displays and Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs). In addition to the A/C system and the heating and ventilation system, the HVAC also controls the following:
- The windshield washer jet heaters. For additional information, Refer to: WIPERS AND WASHERS .
- The temperature control for the front and rear seats (if equipped). For additional information, Refer to: SEATS .
- The High Voltage (HV) interior heater.
In response to commands from the ICP and RICP, the HVAC controls the operation of the temperature blend and distribution motors mounted on the climate control assembly.
The HVAC communicates with the ICP via a private High Speed (HS) Controller Area Network (CAN) bus and the RICP via the HS CAN Human Machine Interface (HMI) systems bus.
For additional information, refer to: CONTROL COMPONENTS .
The HVAC communicates with the Battery Energy Control Module (BECM) to provide heating and cooling when requested from the BECM. Heating is only required by the BECM for the Electric Vehicle (EV) battery when the vehicle is connected to an external power supply, before and during charging as required.
For additional information, Refer to: ELECTRIC VEHICLE BATTERY TEMPERATURE CONTROL .
The HVAC communicates with Powertrain Control Module (PCM) to determine the quantity of recoverable heat that the electric drive components can provide to heat the passenger compartment.
For additional information, Refer to: VOLTAGE CONTROL .
The HVAC communicates with PCM and the BECM via the HS CAN power mode zero systems bus.
