When passenger compartment heating is required the climate control coolant is heated by the High Voltage (HV) interior heater or via the climate control indirect condenser. The heated climate control coolant is circulated by a climate control coolant pump through the heater core which provides the heat to the air for the passenger compartment. The blower circulates the air through the climate control assembly and the heater core to transfer the heat from the climate control coolant to the passenger compartment.
The climate control coolant system also operates when the Electric Vehicle (EV) battery is charging. When the vehicle is connected to an external power supply and the Battery Energy Control Module (BECM) requests heating for the EV battery. The HVAC activates the following:
- Climate control coolant pump
- Climate control changeover valve
- HV interior heater.
