Air Intake Control

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2021 Jaguar I-Pace, 2020 Jaguar I-Pace, and 2019 Jaguar I-Pace. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The recirculation flap is operated by an electric motor. The HVAC control module provides analogue signals to the motor along a hardwired connection. A potentiometer in the motor supplies the HVAC with a position feedback signal for closed loop control.

The source of intake air is automatically controlled unless overridden by pressing the recirculation switch on the Integrated Control Panel (ICP). Under automatic control, the HVAC determines the required position of the recirculation flap from its comfort algorithm and the pollution sensor.

RECIRCULATION SWITCH SWITCH ILLUMINATION DESCRIPTION
A short press. Continuous illumination. Timed recirculation is activated.
Press and hold. Flashes and then continuous illumination. Air inlet is temporarily locked in recirculation.
A second press No illumination. Cancels recirculation and the HVAC returns the recirculation flap to the fresh air position.

Timed recirculation is automatically cancelled after a set time, which varies with ambient air temperature.

Pollution sensor (if equipped)

During automatic control, if the HVAC control module detects pollution it sets the air source to recirculation for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes recirculation it allows fresh air for 20 seconds to renew the air in the passenger compartment. The HVAC repeats this cycle until the pollution sensor signals that the pollution level has decreased.

With the Integrated Control Panel (ICP) with the lower Touchscreen (TS) the sensitivity of the pollution sensor is adjusted, or pollution sensing selected OFF. This is through the 'Settings' screen of the lower TS. If there is a fault with the pollution sensor, the HVAC disables automatic operation of the recirculation flap.
