SUNLOAD Sensor
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2021 Jaguar I-Pace, 2020 Jaguar I-Pace, and 2019 Jaguar I-Pace. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
Right Hand Drive (RHD) vehicle is shown below, Left Hand Drive (LHD) vehicle is similar.
The sunload sensor is installed in the center on the upper surface of the instrument panel.
The sunload sensor consists of 2 photoelectric cells that provide the HVAC control module with inputs of light intensity. The 1 photoelectric cell senses light coming from the left side of the vehicle and other photoelectric cell senses the light coming from the right side of the vehicle. The inputs are a measure of the solar heating effect on passenger compartment.
The Sunload sensor is hardwired to the HVAC by a 3 pin connector through the wiring harness. The 3 pin connector has the following electrical connections:
- A 5V power supply from the HVAC.
- A signal to the HVAC from the left sensor in proportion to the light on the sensor.
- A signal to the HVAC from the right sensor in proportion to the light on the sensor.
The inputs from the sunload sensor are used by the HVAC, to adjust blower speed, temperature and air distribution to improve comfort.
