In-Vehicle Temperature Sensor
The in-vehicle temperature sensor is located in the passenger compartment.
The in-vehicle temperature sensor is a Negative Temperature Coefficient (NTC) resistor installed behind an integral grill. A motor with fan within the sensor draws air in through the grille and over the NTC resistor.
The in-vehicle temperature sensor is hardwired to the HVAC control module by the wiring harness. The in-vehicle temperature sensor has a 4 pin connector to the wiring harness. The 4 pin connector has the following electrical connections:
- A electric supply from the HVAC for the electric fan motor.
- A ground connection for the electric fan motor to the HVAC.
- The temperature sensor signal to the HVAC.
- A ground connection for the temperature sensor only.
The HVAC uses the signal from the in-vehicle temperature sensor for control of the climate control assembly output temperatures, blower speed and air distribution.
If the in-vehicle temperature sensor develops a fault, the HVAC adopts a default temperature of 25°C (77°F).
