Electric Air Conditioning Compressor

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2021 Jaguar I-Pace, 2020 Jaguar I-Pace, and 2019 Jaguar I-Pace. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
WARNING: Do not do any work on the electric Air Conditioning (A/C) compressor until the High Voltage (HV) system on the vehicle is powered down.

ITEM DESCRIPTION
1 Wiring harness connection
2 High Voltage (HV) Direct Current (DC) connector
3 High Pressure (HP) refrigerant outlet port
4 Low Pressure (LP) refrigerant inlet port
WARNING: Only use SP-A2 oil in the Air Conditioning (A/C) system. Incorrect oil in the A/C system can decrease the internal resistance of the electric A/C compressor. This can cause death or injury from electric shock.

The electric Air Conditioning (A/C) compressor is a 3-phase, variable speed scroll compressor. The electric A/C compressor is driven by a 3-phase Alternating Current (AC) electric motor. The electric A/C compressor incorporates a Direct Current (DC) to AC inverter to supply the 3-phase AC electric motor.

The electric A/C compressor circulates refrigerant around the A/C system by compressing low pressure, low temperature vapor from the A/C components in the A/C system. The electric A/C compressor then discharges the resultant high-pressure, high-temperature vapor to the A/C system.

To protect the A/C system from excessive pressure, a Pressure Relief Valve (PRV) is installed in the outlet side of the electric A/C compressor. The PRV vents excess pressure into the front compartment.

The displacement of the electric A/C compressor is altered by varying the electric motor speed, which is controlled by the HVAC control module. The HVAC controls the speed of the electric A/C compressor to match the thermal load of the A/C system and other factors.

The HVAC controls the operation of the electric A/C compressor through a Local Interconnect Network (LIN).
