ITEM DESCRIPTION
1 Refrigerant connector block
2 Refrigerant connector block
3 Cooling module

The Air Conditioning (A/C) recovery heat exchanger is located in the rear of the cooling module at the front of the vehicle. The cooling module uses the vehicle speed and the electric cooling fan to move the air through the cooling module. As the air moves through the cooling module it removes heat from the A/C refrigerant in the A/C recovery heat exchanger.

The electric cooling fan operation is controlled by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

For additional information, Refer to: VOLTAGE CONTROL .

When the recovery heat exchanger operates as a conventional A/C condenser for the A/C refrigerant, the recovery heat exchanger heats up when in use.

When the recovery heat exchanger is recovering heat from the atmosphere, the recovery heat exchanger operates as an evaporator for the A/C refrigerant. The recovery heat exchanger is cold when it is an evaporator.

NOTE:
  • The recovery heat exchanger when operating as an evaporator can have condensation or ice on it. When the Electric Vehicle (EV) battery is charging this can result in water vapor coming off the recovery heat exchanger. This is normal operation for the recovery heat exchanger.
  • The electric cooling fan can activate when the Electric Vehicle (EV) battery is charging to provide airflow for the following to cool the EV battery:
    • The EV battery radiator
    • The recovery heat exchanger.
    • This is normal operation of the electric cooling fan.
