Spring (G2496454): Removal
CAUTION:
Suspension nuts and bolts must be tightened with the vehicle at normal ride height.
NOTE:
- This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
- This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.
- This procedure contains illustrations for right side components, left side components are similar.
- Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.

- Remove the rear wheel and tire.
Refer to: WHEEL AND TIRE
Use a suitable stand to support the lower control arm.
General Equipment: Transmission jack
Disconnect the suspension height sensor.
- Remove and discard the shock absorber nut and bolt.
- Release the shock absorber from the wheel knuckle.
- Remove and discard the tie-rod to wheel knuckle nut and bolt.
- Release the tie-rod from the wheel knuckle assembly.
- Release the 2 wiring harness grommets.
- Reposition the wiring harness away from the lower arm.
- Remove and discard the 2 integral link nuts and bolts.
- Remove the 2 integral links.

CAUTION: Make sure to counter hold the ball joint.
- Remove and discard the stabilizer bar link nut.
- Release the stabilizer bar link from the lower control arm.

CAUTION: Make sure that during the release of the wheel knuckle assembly, the halfshaft is not released from the differential.
- Remove and discard the rear lower control arm bolt.
- Release the wheel knuckle assembly from the lower control arm.

CAUTION: Only compress the spring enough to remove from the vehicle. Over compressing the spring may result in damage to the spring.
- Slowly lower the transmission stand.
- Install the special tool to the spring.
Special Tool(s): JLR-204-854
- Carefully compress the spring.
- Remove the spring and special tool from the vehicle.

NOTE:
- Only complete this step if a new spring is being installed.
Remove the special tool from the spring.
Special Tool(s): JLR-204-854

CAUTION: Note the installed position of the component(s) prior to removal.
Remove the 2 spring seats.
Inspect the components and renew if damaged or worn.
