Rear SUBFRAME (G2496456): Installation

The following step(s) applies to: 

All vehicles 

  1. NOTE: Only complete the following step(s) if the component was previously removed.
    • Install the rear differential to the rear subframe.
    • Install and tighten the 2 new rear bolts.

      Renew Part: Differential case rear bolts Quantity: 2 . 

      Torque  : 192 Nm 

    • Install and tighten the 2 new front bolts.

      Renew Part: Differential case front bolt(s) Quantity: 2 . 

      Torque  : 110 Nm 

  2. WARNING: The component(s) may be heavy. Take extra care when handling.
    • With assistance, Install the suspension assemblies to the subframe.
    • Install and tighten the 2 new nuts and 4 new bolts.

      Renew Part: Rear lower control arm to subframe nuts Quantity: 2 . 

      Renew Part: Rear lower control arm to subframe bolts Quantity: 4 . 

      Torque 

      Stage 1: 70 Nm 

      Stage 2: 240° 

  3. CAUTION: Take extra care not to damage the seal.

    Install the 2 rear halfshafts to the rear differential.

  4. Install the 2 upper control arm to subframe nuts and bolts.

    Renew Part: Upper control arm to subframe nut(s) Quantity: 2 . 

    Renew Part: Upper control arm to subframe bolt(s) Quantity: 2 . 

    Torque 

    Stage 1: 60 Nm 

    Stage 2: 60° 

  5. Install the 2 new tie-rod to subframe nuts and bolts.

    Renew Part: Tie-rod to subframe nut(s) Quantity: 2 . 

    Renew Part: Tie-rod to subframe bolt(s) Quantity: 2 . 

    Torque 

    Stage 1: 60 Nm 

    Stage 2: 90° 

  6. NOTE: Repeat this step for the other side.
    • Install the rear suspension height sensor.
    • Install and tighten the 2 bolts.

      Torque  : 7 Nm 

    • Install the rear suspension height sensor link.
    • Install the rear stabilizer bar.
    • Install and tighten the 4 bolts.

      Torque  : 60 Nm 

    • Install and tighten the 2 new upper stabilizer bar link nuts.

      Renew Part: Stabilizer bar link retaining nut(s) Quantity: 2 . 

      Torque  : 60 Nm 

    • Install the rear subframe wiring harness.
    • Connect the 4 electrical connectors.
    • Install the 24 wiring harness clips.
    • Install the 6 grommets.

    • Connect the 3 electrical connectors.
    • Install the clip.
  10. Install the 2 rear springs.
  11. NOTE: This step requires the aid of another technician.
    • With assistance, install the rear subframe assembly.

      General Equipment: Transmission jack 

    • Align the marks made during the removal procedure.
    • Install and tighten the 4 new bolts.

      Renew Part: Rear subframe to body bolts Quantity: 4 . 

      Torque  : 170 Nm 

    • Lower the transmission jack away from the rear subframe assembly.
    • Reposition the transmission jack away from the vehicle.

    • Install and tighten the 4 M10 bolts.

      Torque  : 60 Nm 

    • Install and tighten the 4 nuts.

      Torque  : 60 Nm 

    • Install and tighten the 2 M8 bolts.

      Torque  : 25 Nm 

    • Install the NVH  damper.
    • Install and tighten the 2 bolts.

      Torque  : 25 Nm

    • Connect the rear driveshaft to the rear differential.
    • Align the marks made during the removal procedure.
    • Install the 3 washers.
    • Install and tighten the 6 new bolts.

      Renew Part: Driveshaft to rear differential bolts Quantity: 6 . 

      Torque  : 48 Nm 

    The following step(s) applies to: 

    [+] Vehicles with Fuel Fired Booster Heater

    • Reposition the wiring harness into the correct location.
    • Install the clip.

    The following step(s) applies to: 

    All vehicles 

  16. NOTE: Repeat this step for the other side.

    Install and tighten the new shock absorber to wheel knuckle nut and bolt.

    Renew Part: Shock absorber nut Quantity: 2 . 

    Renew Part: Shock absorber lower bolt Quantity: 2 . 

    Torque 

    Stage 1: 70 Nm 

    Stage 2: 120° 

    • Install the left and right undershields.
    • Install and tighten the 2 nuts.

      Torque  : 10 Nm 

    • Install and tighten the 13 bolts.

      Torque  : 10 Nm 

    • Install the 17 fasteners.

    • Install the clip.
    • Connect the 2 electrical connectors.
  19. Install the rear left wheel arch liner.

    Refer to: REAR WHEEL ARCH LINER

  20. NOTE: Only do this step if a new component is to be installed.

    Refill the rear differential.

    Refer to: DIFFERENTIAL DRAINING AND FILLING VEHICLES WITH HEAVY DUTY DIFFERENTIAL

    Refer to: DIFFERENTIAL DRAINING AND FILLING VEHICLES WITHOUT HEAVY DUTY DIFFERENTIAL

  21. Install the rear brake pads.

    Refer to: BRAKE PADS - VEHICLES WITH: 324 MM BRAKE DISC

    The following step(s) applies to: 

    GTDi 2.0L Petrol/INGENIUM I4 2.0L Petrol/INGENIUM I4 2.0L Petrol - PHEV/INGENIUM I6 3.0L Petrol/V6 S/C 3.0L Petrol/V8 S/C 5.0L Petrol 

  22. Install the exhaust system

    Refer to: EXHAUST SYSTEM - INGENIUM I4 2.0L PETROL (G2020236)

    Refer to: EXHAUST SYSTEM - INGENIUM I6 3.0L PETROL (G2501539)

    The following step(s) applies to: 

    INGENIUM I4 2.0L Diesel/INGENIUM I4 2.0L Diesel AJ21 

  23. WARNING: This step requires the aid of another technician.
    • Install the new exhaust clamp.

      Renew Part: Front exhaust clamp Quantity: 1 . 

    • With assistance, install the exhaust system.
    • Install the 3 exhaust mounting rubbers.
    • Tighten the exhaust clamp

      Torque  : 55 Nm 

    • Connect the electrical connector.
    • Install the wiring harness to the clip.
    • Install the center undershield.
    • Install and tighten the 4 bolts.

      Torque  : 5 Nm 

    • Install and tighten the 2 nuts.

      Torque  : 5 Nm 

    The following step(s) applies to: 

    INGENIUM I6 3.0L Diesel/TDV6 3.0L Diesel 

  26. WARNING: This step requires the aid of another technician.
    • Install the new exhaust clamp.

      Renew Part: Front exhaust clamp Quantity: 1 . 

    • With assistance, install the exhaust system.
    • Install the 4 exhaust mounting rubbers.
    • Tighten the exhaust clamp.

      Torque  : 55 Nm 

    • Connect the electrical connector.
    • Install the wiring harness to the clip.
    • Install the center undershield.
    • Install and tighten the 4 bolts.

      Torque  : 5 Nm 

    • Install and tighten the 2 nuts.

      Torque  : 5 Nm 

    The following step(s) applies to: 

    All vehicles 

  29. Connect the 12 V system.

    Refer to: STARTUP BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT

  30. Use the Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) approved wheel alignment equipment, check and if necessary adjust the wheel alignment. SRO 576515 Rear Wheel Alignment - Check and Adjust to be claimed separately.

    General Equipment: Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment 

  31. Use the JLR  approved diagnostic equipment to calibrate the suspension ride height.

    General Equipment: Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment
