Active Exhaust System Operation Modes
Operation of the active exhaust system depends on the ATCM selection. For additional information, Refer to: RIDE AND HANDLING OPTIMIZATION - V8 S/C 5.0L PETROL
Additionally, the driver can switch between the active exhaust system operating modes independently.
The active exhaust system has 2 different modes:
Normal Mode
In normal mode, the valves are open at idle. The valves will close when the engine speed exceeds 1, 100 Revolutions Per Minute (RPM). They begin to open gradually from 3, 000 RPM depending upon the APP sensor position signal. This serves to both enhance the sound quality in the vehicle, and reduce back pressure to enhance engine performance. The PCM disables the active exhaust system during specific engine operating conditions.
When the engine is running the driver can activate the active exhaust system. It can be operated by operating the active exhaust switch or selecting 'Dynamic mode' manually on the ATCM.
Dynamic Mode
In 'Dynamic mode' the PCM activates the active exhaust system and reduces the engine speed when the valves begin to open. To activate the 'Dynamic mode', switch the ignition on and operate the active exhaust switch on the floor console. After the engine starts the active exhaust system will operate in 'Dynamic mode'.
The active exhaust feature is reset to the normal setting at the start of each ignition cycle.
| Dynamic Response System Setting | Active Exhaust Switch Position | Indicator Lamp Status | Active Exhaust Valve Status | Exhaust Sound |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Normal | OFF (default) | OFF | Open at normal idle speed, closed above normal idle speed (1, 100 RPM ), opens above 3, 000 RPM , but will open when engine demand requires | Normal, but will increase with high engine demand |
| Normal | ON (operated manually) | ON | Open at normal idle speed, closed above normal idle speed (1, 100 RPM ), opens gradually above 2, 500 RPM , but will open when engine demand requires | Varies with engine performance |
| Dynamic | ON (default) | ON | Open at normal idle speed, closed above normal idle speed (1, 100 RPM ), opens gradually above 2, 000 RPM , but will open when engine demand requires | Varies with engine performance |
| Dynamic | OFF (operated manually) | OFF | Open at normal idle speed, closed above normal idle speed (1, 100 RPM ), opens above 3, 000 RPM , but will open when engine demand requires | Normal, but will increase with high engine demand |
