Wheel Knuckle (G2187517): Installation

The following step(s) applies to: 

All vehicles 

  1. CAUTION: Make sure that these components are installed to the noted removal position.
    NOTE: Only do the following step(s) if a new component is to be installed.

    Using the special tools and a hydraulic press, install the wheel bearing.

    Special Tool(s): JLR-204-807, JLR-204-812 

    General Equipment: Hydraulic press 

  2. CAUTION: Make sure the circlip is seated in the groove correctly.
    NOTE: Only do the following step(s) if a new component is to be installed.

    Install the circlip.

  3. NOTE: Only do the following step(s) if a new component is to be installed.

    Using the special tools and a hydraulic press, install the wheel hub into the wheel bearing.

    Special Tool(s): 204-726, JLR-204-836 

    General Equipment: Hydraulic press 

  4. CAUTION: Make sure that the new nut and bolt are installed.
    • Install the wheel knuckle.
    • Install and tighten the upper control arm nut and the bolt.

      Renew Part: Upper control arm retaining nut and bolt Quantity: 1  .

      Torque 

      Stage 1: 40 Nm 

      Stage 2: 180° 

    The following step(s) applies to: 

    4x4 

  5. Make sure the halfshaft is fully installed into the rear differential.
  6. Slide the halfshaft into the wheel knuckle.

    The following step(s) applies to: 

    All vehicles 

  7. CAUTION: Make sure that the new nut and bolt are installed.
    • Secure the toe link.
    • Install and tighten the nut and the bolt.

      Renew Part: Toe link to knuckle nut and bolt Quantity: 1  .

      Torque 

      Stage 1: 40 Nm 

      Stage 2: 180° 

  8. CAUTION: Make sure that the new nut and bolt are installed.

    Install and tighten the lower control arm nut and the bolt.

    Renew Part: Rear lower arm to knuckle nut and bolt Quantity: 1  .

    Torque 

    Stage 1: 70 Nm 

    Stage 2: 240° 

  9. CAUTION: Make sure that new nuts and bolts are installed.
    • Install the integral link.
    • Install and tighten the 2 integral link bolts and nuts.

      Renew Part: Integral link nuts and bolts Quantity: 2  .

      Torque 

      Stage 1: 48 Nm 

      Stage 2: 60° 

  10. CAUTION: Make sure a new nut is installed.

    Install and tighten the stabilizer bar link nut.

    Renew Part: Stabilizer bar link retaining nut(s) Quantity: 1  .

    Torque  : 56 Nm 

    • Secure the wheel speed sensor wiring harness.
    • Install and tighten the 2 bolts.

      Torque  : 9 Nm 

    • Install the rear brake disc shield.
    • Install and tighten the 3 bolts.

      Torque  : 9 Nm 

  11. Install the brake disc.

    Refer to: BRAKE DISC .

    The following step(s) applies to: 

    4x4 

  12. CAUTION:
    • Install the retained nut.
    • Do not use air tools to install the nut. Failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the component.
    • Tighten the nut without the weight of the vehicle on the suspension.
    • Apply the foot brake.
    • Install and tighten the halfshaft nut.

      Torque  : 175 Nm 

  13. CAUTION: Do not use air tools to remove the nut. Failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the component.
    • Apply the foot brake.
    • Remove and discard the halfshaft nut.
  14. CAUTION:
    • Make sure that the new nut is installed.
    • Do not use air tools to install the nut. Failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the component.
    • Tighten the nut without the weight of the vehicle on the suspension.
    • Apply the foot brake.
    • Install and tighten the halfshaft nut.

      Renew Part: Rear halfshaft nut Quantity: 1  .

      Torque 

      Stage 1: 100 Nm 

      Stage 2: 90° 

    The following step(s) applies to: 

    All vehicles 

  15. Install the rear wheel and tire.

    Refer to: WHEEL AND TIRE .

  16. Press the brake pedal several times, check the fluid level in the brake fluid reservoir and top-up with brake fluid if necessary.
  17. Deactivate the service mode function of the EPB  .

    Refer to: ELECTRIC PARK BRAKE SERVICE MODE ACTIVATION AND DEACTIVATION .

  18. Check the rear wheel alignment and adjust if required.
