Hood (G2172311): Removal

WARNING:
  • Always wear safety glasses when repairing an airbag Supplementary Restraint System (SRS) vehicle and when handling an airbag.
  • To avoid accidental deployment and possible personal injury, the backup power supply must be depleted before repairing or replacing any airbag SRS components. To deplete the backup power supply energy, disconnect the startup battery ground cable and wait 1 minute. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury.
  • Do not probe SRS electrical connectors.
CAUTION: Always protect paintwork and windows when removing exterior components.
  1. Make the Supplementary Restraint System (SRS) safe.

    Refer to: SUPPLEMENTARY RESTRAINT SYSTEM HEALTH AND SAFETY PRECAUTIONS .

  2. Disconnect the startup battery ground cable.

    Refer to: STARTUP BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT .

    • Disconnect the 3 electrical connectors.
    • Remove the 7 clips.
    • Release the wiring harness.

    • Disconnect the 2 windshield washer hose connector.
    • Remove the 6 clips.
    • Release the windshield washer hose.
  5. WARNING:
    • This step requires the aid of another technician.
    • Make sure that the hood is sufficiently supported before the gas strut is disconnected.
    CAUTION: Note the installed position of the component(s) prior to removal.

    • Remove the 2 clips.
    • Release the 2 struts.
    • Remove the 6 nuts.
    • Remove the hood.
  6. NOTE: Only perform the following step(s), if a new component is to be installed.

    • Remove the 7 clips.
    • Remove the Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) pad.

    Remove the weatherstrip.

  8. CAUTION: Note the installed position of the component(s) prior to removal.

    • Remove the 6 nuts.
    • Remove the hood latches.

    Remove and discard the weatherstrip.

    • Remove the electrical connector.
    • Remove the nut.
    • Disconnect the electrical connector.
    • Remove the 12 bolts.
    • Remove the pedestrian protection system airbag.

    Remove the 2 windshield washer jets.
