Pinpoint Test H: Active Grille Air Shutter Movement Obstructed By Debris

  1. H1: IDENTIFICATION OF WHICH ACTIVE GRILLE IS OBSTRUCTED TEST

    1. Set the vehicle into active grille wash mode sequence by starting the engine, set the vehicle into sand mode. After 20 seconds the active grille will open. Using a flash light to look through the front bumper grilles and visually check for debris or other contaminants obstructing the upper and/or lower active grille air shutters to confirm which active vane is being obstructed.

      Does the upper active grille appear to be being obstructed?

      Yes  : If the upper  active grille appears to be obstructed GO to H2.

      No  : If the lower  active grille appears to be obstructed GO to  H3.

  2. H2: REPAIR PROCESS FOR THE UPPER ACTIVE GRILLE 
    1. Remove the front bumper radiator grille for access only (see TOPIx workshop service information, article FRONT BUMPER - steps 1 to 13)

    2. Remove the upper active grille for access only
    3. Using a low pressure water hose, flush out the debris/contaminant/obstruction by washing the ducts with a low pressure water jet until all debris are removed. Take care not to damage the cooling pack fins
    4. Before re-installing the front bumper, repeat Step H1 (see above) to confirm if the active grille is now working properly

      Is the active grille now working properly?

      Yes  : Re-install the front armature and front bumper (see TOPIx workshop service information, article FRONT BUMPER )

      No  : Replace the upper active grille. Retest. If issue is resolved, re-install the front armature and front bumper (see TOPIx workshop service information, article FRONT BUMPER )

  3. H3: REPAIR PROCESS FOR THE LOWER ACTIVE GRILLE 
    1. Remove the front bumper radiator grille for access only (see TOPIx workshop service information, article FRONT BUMPER - steps 1 to 13)
    2. Using a low pressure water hose, flush out the debris/contaminant/obstruction by washing the ducts with a low pressure water jet until all debris are removed. Take care not to damage the cooling pack fins
    3. Before re-installing the front bumper, repeat Step H1 (see above) to confirm if the active grille is now working properly

      Is the active grille now working properly?

      Yes  : Re-install the front armature and front bumper (see TOPIx workshop service information, article FRONT BUMPER )

      No  : Replace the lower active grille. Retest. If issue is resolved, re-install the front bumper (see TOPIx workshop service information, article FRONT BUMPER )
