Daytime Running Lamps: Operation
The default operating mode for the exterior lighting system is 'AUTO'. The exterior lighting can be manually overwritten with the lighting control switch and will reset to 'AUTO' at each ignition cycle.
When the lighting conditions do not require the headlights to be on, Daytime Running Lamps (DRL) operates automatically.
The DRLs are switched on when the following conditions are met:
- Ignition is in Power Mode 7 - Engine running.
- Lighting control switch is in the neutral position and 'AUTO' lights are selected (rain/light sensor not requesting exterior lighting operation).
- Driver mode is selected - The Transmission Control Switch (TCS) is in different gear than Park (P).
The DRL remain off if:
- Power mode is different than Power Mode 7 (engine running)
- Park (P) is still selected (automatic transmission only).
- Neutral (N) is still selected and the park brake is applied (manual transmission only).
- The vehicle has not moved since the engine was manually started. (Not started using stop/start sequence - Only applies to vehicles with the stop/start system).
- If Power Mode 6 or 7 and the 'OFF' position is selected. - The DRL will remain of until the vehicle has moved at least 100 meters or the vehicle's speed exceeds 10 km/h (6.2 mph). If the DRL are manually switched off again, during the same drive cycle and whilst the vehicle is stationary, then they remain switched off. It will stay switched off until automatic operation is re-established.
The DRL are switched off when the following conditions occur:
- Ignition state is changed to Power Mode 4 (accessory) or Power Mode 0 (locked and alarmed).
- Lighting control switch is moved from neutral to side lamps or dipped beam or 'OFF' position
- Lighting control switch is in the neutral position and the 'Auto' lights are active and the rain/light sensor requests exterior lighting on.
- The front fog lamps are switched on.
The DRL interaction with other functions:
- The DRL are not switched off when the headlamp flash function is operated.
- Depending on market, the DRL will be dimmed to the intensity of the side lamp or switched off when the turn signal indicator or hazard warning become active. For example, if the left turn signal indicator is active, the left the DRL is dimmed or switched off until the turn signal indicator becomes inactive. The opposite headlamp DRL will remain on at full intensity.
