General Procedures: Check

Some variation in the illustrations may occur, but the essential information is always correct.

1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.

   Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect (General Procedures).

2. WARNING: Make sure to support the vehicle with axle stands.

   Raise and support the vehicle.

3. Refer to: Fuel Pump Camshaft Timing Check  (General Procedures).
4. Refer to: Lower Timing Cover  (Removal and Installation).
5. CAUTION:

   • Make sure that the area around the component is clean and free of foreign material.
   • Inspect the 3 timing chain oil nozzles for signs of damage, install as necessary.
6. CAUTION:

   • Using a suitable tie strap, position the tensioner to one side.
   • Take extra care when removing the component. Make sure the washers fitted both sides of the balance weight do not fall into the engine oil pan.
   • Make sure the coloured chain links align correctly with the fuel rail high-pressure fuel pumps camshaft, balance shaft and crankshaft sprocket markings.

     Special Tool(s):  JLR-303-1621

     Torque Specifications: 

     Stage 1: 25 Nm 

     Stage 2: 90° 

7. Refer to: Lower Timing Cover  (Installation).

8. Remove the special tool.

   Special Tool(s):  JLR-303-1303

9. • Torque Specification: 10 Nm 
10. NOTE: Install a new sealing washer.

    Torque Specification: 24 Nm 

11. Connect the battery ground cable.

    Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect (General Procedures).

12. 1. Fill the engine with the oil drained previously.
    1. Clean any residual engine oil from the oil filler cap area.
14. CAUTION: Make sure that the vehicle has been left for 10 minutes from filling with oil, and that the engine oil level is reading at least minimum. Follow steps  17 - 23 before starting the engine.

    Start the engine and allow to run for 10 minutes, stop the engine.

15. Refer to: Air Deflector (Installation).
16. CAUTION:

    • Make sure that the selector lever and the gearshift mechanism are in the park (P) position.
    • Make sure that the hood is open.

    Turn on the ignition.

17. Press the menu button to access the main menu display.

18. Scroll down the menu to the Vehicle Info selection.

19. Press the menu button to access the Vehicle Info display.

20. Scroll down the menu to the Oil Level selection.

21. Press the menu button to access the Oil Level display.

22. Press the cruise control cancel button 2 times to update the oil level value.

23. Allow 10 minutes for the engine oil level to stabilise if there has been an additional oil top up. Repeat steps  16 - 24.

24. Turn off the ignition.
