Variable Valve Timing Unit (G2300064): Removal

- Disconnect the startup battery ground cable.
Refer to: STARTUP BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT
- Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.

- Remove the hood.
Refer to: HOOD
- Remove the secondary bulkhead left panel.

- Remove the upper timing cover.
Refer to: UPPER TIMING COVER
- Remove the charge air cooler.
Refer to: CHARGE AIR COOLER INTAKE PIPE - INGENIUM I4 2.0L DIESEL - MID, LOW POWER
Refer to: CHARGE AIR COOLER INTAKE PIPE - INGENIUM I4 2.0L DIESEL - HIGH POWER
Disconnect and release the wiring harness.
- Release the wiring harness from the charge air cooler bracket.
- Remove the 2 charge air cooler bracket nuts.
Remove the 2 bolts and remove the charge air cooler bracket.

CAUTION: Make sure the camshaft timing marks are positioned as illustrated.
Using the special crankshaft pulley tool, rotate the crankshaft until the camshaft locking tool can be installed.
Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1625, JLR-303-1630
Secure the special tool as illustrated.
Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1625
Torque: 10 Nm
- Rotate the crankshaft counter clockwise to allow the bolt holes to line up correctly.
- Install the two bolts.
Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1630

NOTE: The timing chain should not be under tension in the positions illustrated.
Check the tension of the timing chain.

CAUTION: Use 2 suitable M6 X 20 bolts to install the special tool to the cylinder head.
Install the special tool.

Loosen but do not fully remove the bolt.
Remove the special tool.
Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1631
Remove and retain the hydraulic timing chain tensioner for use in the installation procedure.
Remove the Variable Valve Timing (VVT) unit.
Remove the fixed timing chain guide.
Remove the tensioner timing chain guide.
