The suspension air supply unit comprises the following major components:
- A two stage piston compressor
- A 12V electric motor
- A solenoid operated exhaust valve
- A pneumatically operated exhaust valve
- An air drier unit
- A compressor temperature sensor.
The suspension air supply unit is located in the luggage compartment, inside the air supply housing on the rear corner of the spare wheel well.
The air supply housing surrounds the air suspension compressor assembly. The air supply housing is a double layer box which is lined with insulating foam which suppresses the operating noise of the suspension air supply unit. Each layer of the box has a plastic moulded base and a pressed steel lid.
The suspension air supply unit supplies dry compressed-air into the air suspension system where it is directed into the air springs by solenoid operated valves.
The air suspension compressor cylinder head is fitted with a temperature sensor. The sensor is connected to the Chassis Control Module (CHCM) which monitors the cylinder temperature and can suspend compressor operation if an overheat condition occurs.
