- Before disconnecting any components, make sure the area is clean and free from foreign material. When disconnected all openings must be sealed.
- Be prepared to collect escaping fuel.
- Be prepared to collect escaping coolant.
- This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
- This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.
- Before working on the fuel system make sure to study the fuel system health and safety article of this repair information.
- Disconnect the startup battery ground cable.
Refer to: STARTUP BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT
- Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.
Refer to: LIFTING
- Remove the hood.
Refer to: HOOD
- Remove the cowl panel.
Refer to: COWL PANEL
- Remove the secondary bulkhead left panel.
Refer to: SECONDARY BULKHEAD LEFT PANEL - INGENIUM I4 2.0L DIESEL .
- Remove the cooling module.
Refer to: COOLING MODULE
Remove and discard the two exhaust pipe nuts and the gasket.
Remove the 2 bolts.

NOTE: If equipped.
Remove the 2 bolts. Discard the gasket.
Remove the heatshield to allow access to the exhaust clamp.
Disconnect the 4 electrical connectors.
- Disconnect the hose connector.
- Remove the bolt.
- Remove the hoses from the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) and remove the sensor assembly.
Cut the clamp in the position illustrated.
Release the exhaust clamp and discard the gasket.
- Remove the 2 nuts.
- Remove the DPF.
Disconnect the 2 electrical connectors and release the wiring harness.
Disconnect the ground cable connection.
Disconnect the 3 fuel pipe connectors and position away from the engine.

CAUTION: Before disconnecting any components, make sure the area is clean and free from foreign material. When disconnected all openings must be sealed.
Disconnect the A/C connector and discard the seals.
- Disconnect the electrical connector.
- Remove the vacuum solenoid bracket retaining bolt.
- Reposition vacuum solenoid away from the transmission.
Disconnect the vacuum pipe and position away from the left side engine mount.
Disconnect the electrical connector and reposition away from the transmission.
- Reposition the cover to access the terminal.
- Remove the nut and reposition the wiring harness away from the starter motor.
Disconnect the starter motor electrical connector and reposition the wiring harness away from the starter motor.
Remove the 2 bolts and remove the starter motor.
- Remove the 4 screws.
- Remove the fixing washer.
- Reposition the right side fender splash shield towards the front of the vehicle.
Reposition the junction box cover.
- Disconnect the starter motor electrical connector from the junction box.
- Remove the starter motor wiring harness retaining nut.
- Release the starter motor wiring harness.
Disconnect the coolant hoses and reposition away from the engine.
Disconnect the coolant hose and reposition away from the engine.
Remove the 4 bolts.
Remove the 3 bolts.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Using a suitable axle stand, support the transmission in the correct position.

Install the engine lifting eyes to the positions shown in the illustration.
Remove the 3 bolts.
Remove left side engine mount nut.
Remove the right side engine mount nut.

WARNING: This step requires the aid of another technician.
- Install the special service tool, engine lifting bracket.
Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1633
General Equipment: Hydraulic jib crane
- Remove the engine assembly from the vehicle.
- Install the special service tool, engine lifting bracket.
- Disconnect the vacuum hose.
- Remove the 2 nuts and remove the vacuum reservoir.
Remove the 4 bolts and remove the left side engine mount bracket.
Install the special service tool, engine stand adaptor.
Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1673
Install engine assembly to the mounting stand.
