Wheel Knuckle - Vehicles With: Air Suspension (G2225271): Removal

NOTE:
  • This procedure contains illustrations for right side components, left side components are similar.
  • Some variation in the illustrations may occur, but the essential information is always correct.
  • This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.
  1. Using Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment, depressurize the air suspension system.

    Refer to: AIR SUSPENSION SYSTEM DEPRESSURIZE AND PRESSURIZE .

    General Equipment  : Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment 

  2. Using Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment, set the Electric Park Brake (EPB) to the service position.

    Refer to: ELECTRIC PARK BRAKE RELEASE .

  3. Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.

    Refer to: JACKING AND LIFTING .

  4. Remove the rear wheel and tire.

    Refer to: WHEEL AND TIRE .

  5. CAUTION:
    • Do not use air tools to remove the halfshaft nut. Failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the halfshaft.
    • Do not discard the nut. Keep it for use in the halfshaft installation procedure.

    Remove the halfshaft nut.

  6. Remove the rear brake disc.

    Refer to: BRAKE DISC .

    • Remove the 3 bolts.
    • Remove the brake disc heatshield.

    • Remove the bolt.
    • Reposition the brake caliper wiring harness.
  9. CAUTION: Take extra care not to damage the wheel speed sensor during removal.

    • Release the wheel speed sensor wiring harness.
    • Remove the 2 screws.
    • Release the wheel speed sensor.
    • Remove the wiring harness bracket.

    Release the rear suspension height sensor link arm.

    Remove and discard the nut and bolt.

    • Remove and discard the nut and bolt.
    • Release the tie-rod from the wheel knuckle assembly.

    • Remove and discard the 2 nuts and 2 bolts.
    • Remove the 2 lower control arm links.
  14. CAUTION: Make sure to counter hold the ball joint.

    • Remove and discard the nut.
    • Release the stabilizer bar link.

    • Remove and discard the bolt.
    • Release the wheel knuckle assembly.

    • Install special tool JLR-205-857 as illustrated.

    Special Tool(s)  : 205-857 

    • Release the halfshaft.
  17. NOTE: This step requires the aid of another technician.

    • Remove and discard the upper control arm nut and bolt.
    • Remove the wheel knuckle assembly.
  18. NOTE: Only do the following step if a new wheel knuckle is to be installed.

    Remove the rear wheel bearing from the wheel knuckle.

    Refer to: WHEEL BEARING .
