Drive Away Release
In static mode and if the Electric Park Brake (EPB) applied, the drive-away release mode releases the EPB when the accelerator pedal is pressed. Drive-away release is to help with a smooth drive away. This is done without the EPB switch being set to the release position.
The drive-away release can be activated when the ignition is in Power Mode 7 and at the same time:
Driver Present:
- Either the driver's door is closed.
- Or the driver's seatbelt is buckled.
However if the vehicle detects that the driver has exited the vehicle while it is still torque capable, drive-away release will only detect the driver as present once the seatbelt is fastened.
The driver is detected as "not present" when:
EPB applied, in gear, ignition in Power Mode 7, brake pedal NOT pressed and the seatbelt is unfastened and the driver door opened.
The following factors determine the point at which the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) control module releases the brakes:
- Tilt angle - from the longitudinal motion sensor in the Restraints Control Module (RCM).
- Drive motor torque - from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
- Accelerator pedal applied - from the Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) sensor.
- DRIVE (D) or REVERSE (R) selected - from the Transmission Control Module (TCM).
Drive-away release operation can be delayed by holding the EPB switch in the applied position. Then release the EPB switch to the neutral position at the required time.
