Pinpoint Test C: Noise, Vibration And Harshness
- C1: NOISE, VIBRATION AND HARSHNESS TEST 1
- If a grabbing or shunting concern is experienced when the vehicle steering is at high lock, proceed to test step 2. For all other NVH issues Go to C2
- Test the vehicle from cold replicating the customer's concern, allow vehicle to warm up and test again following the same driving style. Evaluate if the grabbing is coming from the front or rear wheels
Is the customer concern present at all times (warm and cold) and grabbing from the rear axle?
Yes
GO to C2
No
Customer concern is present when the vehicle is cold and the front wheels are on high lock. This is a vehicle suspension characteristic due suspension mounts and bushings binding when cold. Component replacement will not repair the customer concern and NO parts should be replaced. The characteristic should be explained to the customer that in cold conditions a grabbing/shunting may be experienced with high steering input at low speeds
- C2: NOISE, VIBRATION AND HARSHNESS TEST 2
- Inspect all 4 wheels on the vehicle for the following issues:
- Correct tire size and installation
- Matching branded tires
- Even wear across the tires on the front and rear axle (Wear should be approximately the same across tires on the same axle)
- Damage to the wheel or tire (previous puncture repairs)
- Driveshaft and halfshaft installation (Check universal joints and constant velocity joints for wear and correct installation)
Were any issues identified from the list above?

- C3: NOISE, VIBRATION AND HARSHNESS TEST 3
- Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment and the Inline Diagnostic Unit 2 (IDU2)/NVH kit, complete the wheel balance application. Follow the instructions given on the application.
- If an NVH kit is not available, check the wheel balance of each wheel
Were any faults identified in the application? Or were any wheels out of balance?

- Drain all oil from the transfer case and refill with new fresh oil to the correct specification. Refer to: TRANSFER CASE DRAINING AND FILLING . Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment complete routine - All Wheel Drive - Pump Venting
- Drive the vehicle for at least 2km consisting of various corners at different speeds, including throttle applied and deceleration when cornering. Emulate parking maneuvers by using full steering wheel rotation slowly. Reevaluate the vehicle and test
